Squirrel Scouts

Squirrels - 4 to 6 years

We’re starting a new provision for four and five year olds called Squirrels, to help young people gain skills for life at a time when it matters most and where it's most needed.

Squirrels from 1st Helensburgh and 1st Rhu had an exciting day out last Saturday as they teamed up for an action-packed adventure day. ⚜️

Their day began with a train ride from Helensburgh to Cardross. 🚆 Once at 1st Cardross Scout Hall, the Squirrels got stuck into a brilliant mix of activities including fire lighting, soft archery, crafts, exploring the local park & a campfire.

It was a great day for our Squirrels & a fantastic opportunity to make new friends, try new things and enjoy the adventure day together with other Squirrels from a different group.

District Lead Volunteer, Sarah Lintott said “A huge well done to all the leaders involved in arranging and facilitating a fantastic event for our youngest members. Brilliant to see so many of our youngest members enjoying themselves and making new friends. Demand for Squirrels in the District is continuing to grow and I encourage our Groups who currently don’t have a squirrel drey to consider the benefit of adding a Drey to their Group.”

Big thanks to all the volunteers who made it happen! 👏

What an incredible time 1st Rhu had at their Group Camp last weekend! 🛶⛰️ From Squirrels, Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, & Explorers, young people from every section enjoyed an action-packed weekend at Scout Adventures Lochgoilhead.

Whether they were paddling across the loch, scaling new heights, or taking on team challenges, everyone had the chance to try something new and make lasting memories.

Sarah Lintott, District Lead Volunteer visited the group on Saturday. She was amazed at the energy and enthusiasm across all the sections - even with the rain pouring down. Sarah even got involved in the legendary Jellyfish song around the campfire - which, of course, mean't getting a little soggy herself!

Sarah said “I really enjoyed my time visiting the Group at their Annual Group Camp and I’m very thankful I had a decent waterproof jacket! It was fantastic to see so many young people having such a brilliant time outdoors, regardless of the weather. Taking part in the Jellyfish song was definitely a highlight, even if it meant getting a bit wet!”

A huge thank you to the brilliant team of leaders and supporters who made the weekend possible, and to the fantastic instructors at Lochgoilhead for delivering such a memorable experience.
